We came to know of this company when we had a water leak from the upstairs bathroom into the living room downstairs in July 2020. They were recommended by Done Rite (the company that mitigated the water damage). Done Rite was excellent and quite responsive. They also did a daily check in to either come out, connect or inform of next steps. Pillar Construction came out right away to survey the damage. They were professional and things looked hopeful. They also worked closely with State Farm to let them know what needed to be done to get the house back together. I was hopeful. This is where things ended for Pillar. After getting the ball rolling with insurance, they pretty much fell off the grid. We found ourselves wondering when they would be in touch with us, pushing us to connect with them over and over again. Their initiation of communication just wasn't there. We had no idea that they wouldn't even schedule us without having a partial check on hand until we inquired about when we were scheduled (something that could've been told to us prior). Fast forward to when the "work" started. After telling us that our knockdown ceiling would be a four day job, because he'd never seen a patched ceiling match well, they actually sent a person to patch the ceiling. A person who basically refused to wear a mask until pressured, used our bathroom without asking and was rude. There was some painting done. Then we realized that we were doing too much of the work on this job and decided to use another contractor, who came in and got things done in November (including reinstalling the sink and cabinets where the initial leak started- which had been sitting in out loft area for months). My biggest issue, is that we never got a refund for the monies we paid initially. We sent nearly 5K and probably got half the amount of that in work and services. This is where I think insurance fraud comes in. If a company sends a line item to insurance that they are repairing the whole ceiling and only come to patch it, it screams insurance fraud to me. It is the consumers that end up paying for this. Pillar owes us a partial refund for what we paid, because they did not perform the work in earnest. Once we sent an email in regards to our concerns and that we were using someone else, Pillar ceased communication and we never hear from them again. No one seemed to care how we experienced them, or look at fair payment and what could be refunded...nothing. This makes me wonder how many other people have had this issue. It bothers me that people can't be upstanding, transparent and do the job they are hired for. So sad for work ethics these days.
