I hired this contractor to remove the popcorn ceiling in my entry way, replace it with a textured ceiling, paint my entry walls and trim work, and strip and paint the exterior of my front door. Their quote was fair, falling in the middle of the range of quotes I had received. I selected this contractor because they were very prompt in their communication. Throughout the process I was tried to keep a positive, friendly attitude hoping that things would all settle out nicely when everything was done. However, when I was presented with a "finished project" I was extremely disappointed. First of all, the timeliness in completing the project was very slow. I can understand some changes to the schedule. But, when the crew was here, they certainly could have put more time in each day ( some days they worked less than 2hours. Chaos in the house for four extra days when the original days were not maximized is not very client-friendly. Secondly, it was very obvious that they misrepresented their ability to provide the ceiling that I was looking for. When the ceiling was being done, they asked me, the homeowner, how the ceilings in our other rooms had been done. I actually had to call the previous contractor (now retired) to ask him questions about how he did the ceilings in those rooms. When I complained about the final ceiling, they blamed me and said that the homeowner should know what was done in their home. Seriously - I am NOT a contractor! Third, the care taken to protect other areas of the house from damage was very poor. Plaster/drywall compound and paint was splattered all the way across the rooms on either side of my entryway. There were several large areas of paint on the DR and LR floors that I had to use vinegar and a lot of elbow grease to get cleaned up without damaging the hard wood. There was paint splattered on the carpet that was dried in and the only way I could remove it was to cut the carpet threads shorter in those area. There was wall paint on the wood trim in numerous spots. One day, when I returned from work, I found someone's paint coated disposable coffee cup in my kitchen sink, with a lot of paint dried onto the sink. Fourth, the attention to detail was poor - wall dings and nail pops were not repaired like I had been promised, plaster was splattered on walls and trim and not cleaned up but just painted over, wall paint and plaster was on the trim work, areas of the walls not painted at all, hand prints on other ceilings that were not there before. And, our front door is absolutely horrible looking - gouged wood, streaked paint, damaged hardware - the paint is actually bubbling off the surface of the door. I have since spent about five hours cleaning up splattered paint, repairing walls, sanding off excess plaster and painting areas that they missed. My front door may be damaged beyond repair - I will have to wait until summer when I can sand it down and see if I can salvage it. The hardware will definitely have to be replaced.
