Barn Renovation | Mar 2013 | This residential remodel had the clear purpose of converting the large, unlivable building into a 21st century home rooted and grounded in the history of the farm. The scope of the remodel was extensive. On the interior, although the focus was on the main floor; each of the building's four floors were remodeled. Some of the changes included: - Kitchen w/walk-in pantry - Created new dining space w/20' tall vaulted ceiling w/authentic barns beams - Refocused the family/living room w/ large stone fireplace - Installed new doors in entry, transposed a ceramic shower in the powder room to become an entry closet. Installed large hanging light fixtures. - Enlarged and rebuilt the master bath to include a universal design curb-less shower - Basement level-lighting, fire resistant ceiling, new exit doors, windows, all new mechanicals including boiler, plumbing, AC, air handlers and a commercial style dehumidifier. - Second floor- completely rebuilt all stairway railings to provide safety, installed new lighting, flooring. Converted an existing bedroom into the open vaulted space above the main floor dining area. Completely rebuilt a bath. Installed a home theatre room w/ snack bar. Bedrooms received closets, windows, barn style trim. - Third Floor-(this was deemed the most dangerous space for children since it was open to the two floors below and protected only by sub-code railings). New craft space with 35sf butcher block top work island and work sink. All kneewalls/railings were rebuilt to provide safe spaces for children. The scope of the project also involved a multitude of exterior items including a new well and septic system, new entry and sidewalk, retaining wall and new windows and doors. | $1 | Lake Elmo, MN |
