John has done tens of thousands of dollars of work at my home over a span of roughly 6 years. Large and Small. The projects have always come out completed to my satisfaction, and look outstanding. They have transformed the way we live in this house. The oldest improvements are now 6 years old, still look as if they were just installed yesterday. John also offered a lot of insight during the design phase to help improve the project, or in some cases save money. Countless trips to my home to consult with me before collecting a single dollar, he cares. His crew are neat and clean. They are particularly good at drainage design, especially working near the house. The materials he uses are locally sourced and top quality. John has done work for other properties in my family and my friends whom I recommended as well. He has treated my home as if it were his own. John has always been easily accessible before, during, and after projects, he is a down to earth, experienced tradesman in his field.

It took me a bit to get my mind wrapped around how bad of a contractor John is. I was back and forth with wanting to leave a review, because I don't find it easy to tarnish a business reputation. However, in this case I will make an exception. John is the business owner at JND landscaping. He was one of 4 "hardscape" contractors that I had come out for an estimate. Pricewise, he came in a bit higher than the others, but I was ok with using him because of his explanation of the process, materials used and overall demeanor. The job was to completely redo my steps to my home, expand my driveway to a 2 car, and install 3 foot retaining walls on either side. Larger job, but John assured me that he had done this type of work before. Overall, the job took 5 months(about triple what it should have been). Along the way there was tons of excuses and shortcuts being made. John doesn't own any heavy equipment to move dirt (when he said he did), instead he hired someone anytime they moved dirt (which cause more delays). John would be on-site 50% of the time, the rest of the time it was his workers by themselves which causes several issues. -John's team never installed the necessary fiberglass pins that hold the retaining wall together. After the wall was almost complete, I noticed this and brought it to his attention. This was a huge mistake that would affect the overall longevity of the wall and I went back and forth with him until it was rectified. They ended up filling the wall with concrete to "bandaid" fix the issue. *This was a dead giveaway that they had no experience with this type of work* -John had stone delivered into my removed driveway and didn't put any material for the truck tires down on the sidewalks edge. The truck dumped the stone and destroyed the sidewalk. He then had his team repour the cement pad that they destroyed and it looks terrible. They didn't have any cones for the workspace and instead used my garbage cans to make a work zone. Someone stepped on this pad while it was drying as a result of this, so now there is footprints on this terrible looking concrete sidewalk that they replaced. -I then noticed that the corner blocks were off in color completely. After bringing this to Johns attention, he stated that he already knew about it and was working on replacing them. This was a complete lie, because he filled the walls solid with concrete. Why would you fill them with concrete if you plan on changing them? After MONTHS of backs and forth, John finally came out and replaced the blocks after I threatened legal action. It was admitted that this was a supplier issue with blocks being sourced from different locations , which is why the color was different. The way it was handled by John was really upsetting. Damage was caused to surrounding blocks when these individual corner blocks were replaced, instead of changing these other components, they filled the areas with hardened paver sand. -They installed a railing that took 5 months to get, I have countless messages to John asking him the style of said railing with no response. The railing finally showed up and looked like something from an industrial building. They then made changes to the railing to make it looks similar to what I previously had ( which was the original agreement), it returned with the welds and finish looking terrible. I accepted it because I knew if I'd I sent it back, I would have ended up with no railing because of these month long delays. Besides this, there was countless issues that needed to be babysat. There are MULTIPLE eye sores across the entire project that I am left with. Overall, the job was an $18,000 disaster. He claims to know this type of work and he clearly doesn't. From what I gathered later into the project, he is a fencing contractor "that also does hardscape". John had countless excuses for his delays, and multiple no shows. STAY AWAY and get someone with real experience!
