Master Bath Flip-Flop

Apr 2014

A leaking shower encouraged these homeowners to remodel their Master Bath. The L-shaped room had been remodeled in the 50s and they were looking for a classic design solution to suit the style of their vintage home. During the demolition phase, additional space was revealed behind the existing toilet. High on their list of priorities was to maximize the shower size; turning this area into a shower and moving the toilet to the former shower location was the perfect solution. Structural work on the old floor joists had to be completed before new large-diameter pipes could be installed in the floor. A large window in the new shower presented an obvious privacy concern, but a unique two-tiered solution solved this problem. We replaced the clear glass of the existing storm window with obscure glass, and filled the old interior window with obscure glass block. The final design evolved as the room was rebuilt. Classic white Subway tile was paired with marble accent pieces for the walls, vanity, shower nook and bench seat. To maintain a clean look, in-floor electric heat was added to warm the room. Cabinetry details were designed to mimic window trim found throughout the home.

Ever since they bought their home a few years ago, this couple envisioned their Kitchen opening into an under-utilized room next to the Kitchen. Designed by Lee Meyer Architects, the plan creates an open Kitchen, featuring a center island with an induction cook top and attached Cherry table/seating area. COTY Award Basement Remodel

May 2010

We remodeled this basement to make room for an aging parent. Low pipes, rotting walls, suspended ceilings and water intrusion made the space unsuitable for a basement apartment. We gutted the basement, framed new walls, provided energy upgrades on exterior walls, and created a living space with a new vintage bath and dedicated bedroom. Wonderful fixtures, wall colors and trim details brought this basement to life. Photos by Greg Schmidt
