We are a small, full-service architectural practice focused on residential, institutional and historic preservation work. Firm Profile and Philosophy The Design and Construction Process can be thought of much as a dialogue or conversation. The best design and the most successful construction work is accomplished when, as a team of Owner, Architect and Contractor, we stay close to this concept and keep the conversation open and clear. We take this dialogue seriously, for, as Winston Churchill once said "We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us." We also look beyond this observation to include the environment as 'shaped' by our work as well, and therefore sustainability is always a design factor of significance at least, if not a primary objective. Our buildings should be representative of an effort to both raise humanity and enhance the environment. Finally, our primary interest is to see the client's goals and objectives realized, including time and budget constraints, not our own agenda superimposed. We will listen, respond, design and build with that always in mind.

Private Residence - Pennington New Jersey | Jan 2002 | Nestled in the woods on twenty-two acres in Pennington, NJ, this English Arts and Crafts house was originally built as a men's private retreat house. An entirely new entrance and foyer were added to establish a true 'front door' and provide for a dynamic connection to existing and many new spaces. This seven-sided asymmetrical space draws from existing design motifs while exerting its own sense of presence and is entirely finished in oiled Spanish cedar. The floor is natural random Tennessee sandstone. On the exterior, stone, wood and glass were used to reflect the natural setting and the arched truss over the entry was based on original interior woodwork, which used a different species of wood in every room. The project included an attached garage, laundry, mudroom and pantry wing. | Pennington, NJ |
