I would never recommend this company. In August 2021 we had a large tree fall onto our house, causing extensive damage. In September, we moved our family out (3 kids, ages 4 and under) after one of the ceilings collapsed. We felt this company took advantage of the stress and preoccupations of our young family. When it came time to begin work inside the house, they agreed to remove all our personal belongings from the affected areas first. I entered the house one day to find they had begun demolition with our belongings still there. They had piled debris (broken baseboards, old nails, etc) in my child's bed, left their dirty tools piled on top of clothes, and other things we felt demonstrated a blatant disregard for the wellbeing of our property. When confronted, they agreed to pause work until all items were removed, although they never fully fulfilled that agreement. After a company moved some of our belongings, Hoyer failed to tell us which company it was. We asked repeatedly over the span of 2.5 weeks for them to tell us the name of the company, and although they were communicating with us about other things, they would not answer our question. When we moved back in, we learned Hoyer had not provided an accurate inventory of our items. The company misplaced a lot of our items and claimed to have never had them because all Hoyer provided was a few photos of one room. Hoyer's crew also damaged things inside the house. For example, they took down a light fixture, then dropped a door knob into it, breaking the light. We felt they were incredibly haphazard in their demolition. They removed whole sections of the walls that neither we nor the insurance company had agreed to replace. They failed to protect the floor which neither we nor our insurance company had agreed to replace. They let the demolished ceilings fall directly onto the floor and then used a metal shovel to scoop up the rubble. We were told they would cover and protect the exterior of the house while replacing the roof, but they failed to do so. We found our AC unit full of debris from the shingles and have found countless nails all around the perimeter of our house. They removed a satellite from the roof and just left it dangling off the house by its cord. When we brought up some of our concerns, Hoyer said they would get a new crew to work on our project. One day my husband talked with a crew member at the house who informed him that they did not know what they were supposed to be doing, because they hadn't heard a plan from Hoyer. Being that my husband had already been in communication with Hoyer asking what was taking so long, we found this very frustrating. When he brought it up to our contact at Hoyer, they responded by forbidding us to talk to the crew and claiming we weren't allowed onto our own property (despite having already told us the opposite). Eventually, we decided to terminate our agreement with Hoyer. We provided written notice (which they acknowledged that they received) and asked them to be off our property by 5pm. When my husband and a lawyer arrived around 5:15pm, the entire crew, the salesman, and the company owner were all still there working. When my husband demanded to know why they were still there, they gave a bunch of excuses. The salesman made several false accusations, claiming we had told Hoyer to intentionally delay our project and that we told the crew to intentionally damage parts of the house. He later called our insurance company and told them we were trying to commit insurance fraud. After being fired, they finally gave us the name of the moving company, agreed to come back and patch up part of the new roof that had blown off, and agreed to provide a written summary of which project items they had and had not completed. We also learned they never filed the necessary permits with the city. It has been 6 months and they have not reached out to patch the roof within the timeframes they specified, and they have failed to provide a detailed written summary of what they did to our house - also failing to return a substantial amount of overpayment from our insurance company. Our experience with Hoyer Construction has been horrible and I would never recommend them to anyone.
