We used Lakeland Contractors to replace the floorboards and railing on our deck. It was a large project of around $25,000. We choose them because they seems to be interested in the job and brought two people to provide an estimate. They have average pricing and average quality relative to the other bids we received and the final work product. We chose them because of their energy when estimating our job. However their project management was a nightmare. We put 50% down in December in order to get started right away in the spring so we could use the “new” deck all summer. There were a number of excuses why they could not start in May when we wanted them to even with six months of planning and them having our money. But they said if they could start in June, then they would be able to stay on the job full time and finish it fast. As it turned out, we should have started earlier as the job took over seven weeks to complete because of poor project management and lack of work ethic. They averaged 4-5 working hour (if we were lucky) per day. I had repeated conversations about the lack of hours worked and the speed of the project as we could not use our deck during the great summer months of June and most of July. Our best interest was clearly not their concern. They started after 9:00 am most of the time and finished before 4:00 pm. This would include leaving during the job to get a few supplies and whatever else they were doing. Some days they worked only a few hours. On days when the weather was a problem for only a couple of hours, they never came back or skipped the day all together. There was never any urgency to complete the job regardless of what we requested. No working into the evenings, no working on the weekends. The work, when finally completed was adequate. However, the stress of not having responsible people who really wanted to work on a regular basis was overwhelming. In hind sight, I would have used a different firm.

Lakeland has completed 5 major projects for us in 2 houses (bathroom and kitchen remodels, bathroom addition, mud room and 3rd stall garage addition). For every project, Lakeland went above and beyond with respect to quality and professionalism. When we sold our house that had the kitchen and bath remodels, the majority of the people that looked at our house mentioned how great the kitchen and bath updates looked. We feel fortunate to have found such a reliable and skilled contractor that we will continue to use for all future major house projects.
