TXV stands for thermal expansion valve. A TXV is used in air conditioning systems and in heat pumps to change the state of the refrigerant (commonly called Freon) from a liquid to a gas. This change of state helps the air conditioner remove heat from the air. Modern, higher efficiency air conditioners and heat pumps use an EEV, electronic expansion valve.
