There should be an old root system from an older tree, this is where you find mushrooms. Mushrooms flourish in a moist, rotted log. Mushrooms spread by spores, so removal of the caps is the order of the day. You do not need any chemical to disrupt this colony.

In my experience having mushrooms in a yard is due to watering for too long or getting too much water in an area. I would recommend cutting the water down in the area where the mushrooms are. Let the soil dry, Hopefully this helps you out.
