How would you level a floor with a dip in the middle?
Floor dips 1/4" max along the joist in the middle of 12' span. Want to use click & lock flooring in the direction, so looking at self-leveler, but concerned that it will crack and creak at the edges where the self-leveler goes to zero. Can't build up the entire floor because it connects to other areas. Starting to look like too big a job.

A leveling compound is the only way I know of to deal with this situation without more complicated work. You are right about cracking where you feather-out the leveling compound. You may just have to live with the floor creaking in that area. If you have access from underneath, you may be able to use shims between the joist and subfloor to bring the floor to a more uniform level. You could install a sister joist next to the current joist, but that's a lot of work too.
