Replacing a shower head in its current location is a simple process and can be done by most homeowners. However, replacing it with an overhead shower head will require a small amount of plumbing experience and a little bit of sheetrock work as well as finish work and painting. That being said, with just a little bit of YouTube time and someone that is pretty good with their hands, a homeowner should be able to do it themselves. However, be careful with the plumbing, it can be a disaster if you mess it up. Hope this helps.

It's gonna depend if the shower arm is connected to a "drop ear Ell" that's properly screwed to the framing. You may need to slightly enlarge the area around the arm to visually confirm what's been previously done. In my house, when I installed a rain maker, the arm began to pull out from the wall because someone had used roofing nails to secure the drop ear Ell, instead of screws.
